Chelsea to step up pursuit of top Premier League striker
Chelsea are hoping to lure Romelu Lukaku back to Stamford Bridge this summer after being impressed by his form at Everton this season.
According to the Daily Express, the Blues are keen to re-sign the Belgian star, who they sold to the Toffees in a £28million deal back in 2014. The Premier League leaders believe he is the perfect man to add to their fire power.
It is believed Chelsea are on the lookout for a new striker with the future of 15-goal top scorer Diego Costa still in doubt after a fall out with boss Antonio Conte and rumours of interest from the Chinese Super League in January.
Lukaku is obviously very well known at Stamford Bridge and has been linked with a move back there on a number of occasions. A number of his Belgium teammates, including Thibaut Courtois and Eden Hazard, could play a role in a summer transfer.
Everton would be loathed to lose their star man, who is the league’s leading marksman with 16 goals after netting four in the 6-3 win over Bournemouth at Goodison Park on Saturday.
But while Lukaku has previously stated his happiness at his current club, he has repeatedly let his desire to play at the highest level, particularly in the Champions League, be known.
Current boss Ronald Koeman has also admitted Lukaku may be better off leaving Everton in order to further his career, fuelling speculation of a return to Chelsea.
