Chelsea star set for showdown talks regarding future as potential exit looms
Chelsea striker Diego Costa is reportedly set for showdown talks with the club this week as he discusses his Stamford Bridge future.
Former club Atletico Madrid are believed to be interested in resigning Diego Costa, who has already been linked with a move to China.
However, a move to China could rule out the possibility of a call-up to the Spain squad for next year’s World Cup in Russia.
Speaking after Saturday’s FA Cup Final, Costa said:
“I will only leave Chelsea for Atlético. If not, I will stay here. I’m not interested in other clubs. I will only sign for another club in Europe, they know that. Otherwise, I’ll stay with my current contract.
“If there are changes to be made that might reduce my chances, if the coach won’t count on me anymore or is to give space for another striker, I know that I’ll have to leave. But only to where I’m willing to.”
Now, according to the Daily Telegraph, Chelsea want to avoid a summer-long saga. They believe talks will take place to find the best outcome for all parties involved.
It has set off alarms that once Atletico’s interest resurfaced, Costa’s willingness to move to China has lessened.
Atletico have already secured an agreement to sign Alexandre Lacazette from Lyon this summer, assuming their transfer ban is lifted on appeal, but with the very possibility that Antoine Griezmann could join Manchester United, a move for Costa makes sense.
A reunion with Diego Simeone would make a great story.
