Chelsea set to sign £33m Euro 2016 forward: Medical plannedPublished June 29, 2016
Chelsea are reportedly about to sign Belgian international Michy Batshuayi according to the Guardian.
The Blues could well do with additional firepower given the relative failure of their attackers last term but the move to sign the Marseille man won’t come cheap.
The 22-year-old will cost Chelsea an initial €40m (£33.2m) fee and the Blues will have to see off apparent interest from Juventus and Crystal Palace who are both keen on the lightning fast forward.
Brussels born Batshuayi left Standard Liege for the south of France in August 2014 and bagged nine Ligue 1 goals in his debut season, this despite starting just six matches.
Last season the OM man managed 23 goals in all competitions and started to attract the attention of Europe’s elite and also secured a spot in Marc Wilmots Euro 2016 squad.
Diego Costa struggled for form in his second season at Chelsea, managing just five Premier League goals in his opening 16 appearances, but the Brazilian born Spanish international did see a marked improvement in the second half of the campaign but failed to make Vicente del Bosque’s Euro 2016 squad.
Loaned in forward Radamel Falcao proved a huge flop and further reinforcements in the final third are very much needed.
