Chelsea set to enter talks with Leicester for £20million midfield enforcer N’Golo KantePublished July 12, 2016
It looks like Antonio Conte’s reign as Chelsea boss is officially underway, as the Italian gets down to business in the transfer market.
According to many sources in the press, the former Juve manager is set to oversee a rather large overhaul of the playing staff at Stamford Bridge this summer, as the club look to get back to challenging for major honours after a disastrous last twelve months.
According to the Daily Telegraph, the influx of new signings could start with the capture of in-demand Leicester enforcer, N’Golo Kante.
The 25-year-old is wanted by many big club’s in Europe, following his remarkable breakthrough season in England, and the Telegraph’s report goes on to suggest that the Blues will contact the Premier League champions imminently, in a bid to enter talks with regards to signing the French international.
It is well known that Kante, has a release clause in his Leicester contract, believed to be in the region of £20million, though the West London side are well aware of the fact that they may need to pay more than the £20million buyout fee, because the player’s clause still allows Leicester to sell to the highest bidder.
The player himself has been reluctant to commit his future at the King Power, and it is understood that Leicester boss Claudio Ranieri is preparing the club for the player’s inevitable departure, with the Foxes keeping a close eye on several midfielders during the transfer window.
It will be interesting to see how this particular transfer story plays out, but if Chelsea are able to sign one of the Premier League’s best midfielders from last season, then that would represent a statement of intent from Antonio Conte, and Chelsea Football Club.
