Chelsea set to complete signing of £80m pair as Antonio Conte continues summer spendingPublished July 14, 2016
Chelsea are said to be close to completing the £80m capture of Leicester City’s N’Golo Kante and Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly according to The Sun.
Conte has now officially taken charge of Chelsea after steering the Italian national team to the Euro 2016 quarter-finals, before they were knocked out by Germany on penalties, and the new boss has already seen Michy Batshuayi arrive from Marseille in a £33m deal.
Chelsea are ready to offer 25-year-old French international £100k a week having already agreed a £30m fee with teh Foxes, though other sides are also said to be tracking the tough tackling defensive midfielder.
Kante played a key role in Leicester City’s shock Premier League title triumph but seems set to leave the King Power Stadium side.
French-born Senegal international Koulibaly would offer Conte further strength in depth at the back and is a top notch performer but the idea Chelsea would have to fork out a club record equalling £50m for the 25-year-old is a little hard to fathom.
Conte still has John Terry on board, though clearly the veteran defender is in the final throes of his career and the Chelsea manager will no doubt look to Kurt Zouma to step up and become a more prominent member of the first team set-up at Stamford Bridge.
