Chelsea ready to offer star player as bait to land £100m rated midfield maestroPublished May 5, 2016
Chelsea are not the only side to have been actively pursuing Juventus midfielder Paul Pogba over the past two or three years but the Blues may have given themselves a real advantage in their push to snap up the French international.
Incoming Blues boss Antonio Conte will look to persuade Pogba to switch Turin for West London and the presence of the Italian manager could aid the move.
Conte was the man who landed Pogba back in the summer of 2012, Juventus bringing in the youngster for a fee of under £1m after he had ran down his Man United contract, and Chelsea are ready to offer bait to help sweeten any potential deal with the Serie A title holders.
Chelsea want to bring in a big-name player or two over the summer to make up for the fact that the Stamford Bridge outfit will not be competiug in the Champions League and Conte has been promised a huge transfer fund to invest in a squad that has massively under-performed in 2015/16.
Chelsea attacker Eden Hazard is said to be keen on a fresh start after a nightmare campaign, during which the former Lille man failed to net in his first 26 Premier League matches of the season, and the Blues board are willing to offer the 25-year-old in a part-exchange deal that they hope would further increase their chances of landing Pogba.
Chelsea are well aware that any hope they have of signing Pogba depends greatly on whether the rangy midfielder pushes for a summer exit and given that he has now secured a fourth successive Italian title one might question the player’s motivation for staying at Juventus.
Some have valued Pobga at as much as £100m (via the Guardian) and as such the use of Hazard in a swap deal would at least help to keep the cost of Chelsea’s bid down.
