Chelsea line-up move for £102m Duo as Antonio Conte chases late summer transfer window swoopPublished August 21, 2016
Chelsea are lining up a club record bid for Real Madrid star James Rodriguez according to the Sunday Express.
The 25-year-old has struggled to retain a foothold in Zinedine Zidane’s starting eleven and could be set for a Bernabeu exit according to many sources.
Conte has failed with advances for Everton forward Romelu Lukaku and will now target the Colombian international as an alternative to the Belgian and will offer £60m for the South American.
Chelsea have started the season brightly, collecting two wins from two, though both victories have certainly been of the narrow variety.
Brazilian born Spanish international Diego Costa has struck late winners against both West Ham and Watford whilst new signing Michy Batshuayi has alsio been among the goals.
However this hasn’t stopped Conte targeting further options to beef up his front-line.
Chelsea are also keen to strengthen their back-line and have made a £42m offer for Napoli centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly.
Napoli have already seen star striker Gonzalo Higuain leave for pastures new this summer and the Serie A side are understandably reticent to lose another big player, hence their reported £60m asking price for the Senegal international.
Chelsea do not have Champions League action to offer prospective signings but are clearly capable of offering massive pay incentives in order to land top transfer targets.
The West London side also have an owner, Russian billionaire Roman Abramovich, who is more than happy to dig deep as and when necessary.
Chelsea finished last season in tenth spot but will certainly be challenging for major honours in 2016/17.
