Chelsea line-up £140m spending spree as Antonio Conte targets big-name signings before the transfer window closesPublished August 14, 2016
Chelsea manager Antonio Conte is ready to dig deep into the Blues coffers as he sets about strengthening his Stamford Bridge squad according to the Daily Express.
Conte’s top targets remain Napoli defender Kalidou Koulibaly and Everton forward Romelu Lukaku and that pair could set the Italian back as much as £90m though funding shouldn’t be an issue given the backing owner Roman Abramovich traditionally supplies.
25-year-old Senegal international centre-back Kalidou Koulibaly would offer Conte further options at the back, which could prove crucial given John Terry’s advancing years but his Serie A employers want as much as £50m for his services.
Everton have already turned down opening offers for Lukaku but Chelsea are undeterred and it’s likely that the 23-year-old Belgian is keen on a move back to the club.
Though Lukaku failed to make an impact in his first spell at Chelsea the burly forward has matured into one of the best forwards in the Premier League, grabbing 25 goals in all competitions last term, and is clearly a player that interests Conte.
As well as these top targets Conte has also placed Santos midfielder Thiago Maia on his wish-list, the 19-year-old is currently being on international duty representing Brazil in the Rio Olympics.
