Chelsea launch £55million bid for world class midfielder
Chelsea boss Antonio Conte has launched a £55million bid to sign Paris Saint-Germain midfielder Marco Verratti this summer, per The Sun.
Verratti, 24, is one of Europe’s most wanted players and could be a target for the likes of Juventus, Barcelona and Real Madrid.
But it appears Italian Conte, just a week after securing the Premier League title, has stolen a march in the race for his fellow countryman.
The Blues will look to offer Verratti are £120,000-per-week contract, with Cesc Fabregas linked with a departure from the club.
Fabregas has featured much more in the first team at Chelsea in recent weeks, but having not been favoured by Conte earlier in the campaign, speculation persists over his future.
Yet Chelsea could be foiled in their search for a playmaker to replace him, with the report suggesting Verratti telling PSG it his intention to stay in France despite Monaco lifting the Ligue 1 title this week.
