According to The Sun, the West London side will join Manchester City in the chase for the football icon, should the player give any indication that he has finally had enough at the Nou Camp.

It is reported that Messi was unhappy with his club’s lack of support during his court case, which saw the Argentine sentenced to 21 months in jail – none of which is likely to be served behind bars.

The story also claims that Chelsea were alerted to the possibility that the 29-year-old could leave Barca over the tax case and the club’s failure to offer the star a new contract, and that Blues chief Roman Abramovich, recently met with Messi’s father to discuss his son’s move to the Premier League.

The Chelsea owner is reportedly willing to offer the Barca star a whopping £800,000 a week to sign a deal at Stamford Bridge, and also concedes that any offer made to Barcelona for the Argentine would need to be a world record bid, believed to be in the region of £110million.

This is not the first time that Leo Messi has been linked with a move to the Premier League or even Chelsea, yet despite past rumours, the forward has never really looked like leaving the Spanish champions.

But with recent speculation suggesting the player is considering his options carefully, could that be about to change?

Judging by the reaction on Twitter, some Chelsea fans really think it just might.

We advise you to take this story with a pinch of salt.
