Bournemouth mount dramatic late £18m bid for Chelsea defenderPublished January 31, 2017
Bournemouth have made an £18m offer for Chelsea defender Nathan Ake, as they bid to pull off a late move to bring the Dutchman back to the Vitality Stadium on a permanent deal.
The versatile 21-year-old impressed Cherries boss Eddie Howe during a six-month long loan spell at the start of the season, netting three goals in 12 appearances before being recalled to Stamford Bridge in January by his parent club.
It had seemed that Ake would remain in west London until at least the end of the current campaign, but Bournemouth are believed to have tabled a big-money offer in an attempt to persuade Chelsea to part ways with the highly-rated youngster.
The Daily Mirror claims that a figure of £18m was submitted to the Blues on Tuesday afternoon, with club officials said to be mulling over the bid ahead of the deadline.
It remains to be seen if Chelsea will choose to accept Bournemouth’s offer, however, according to the London Evening Standard, a switch is highly unlikely at this stage.
Ake has made just 13 appearances for the Stamford Bridge club since moving from Feyenoord back in 2011.
He has also enjoyed profitable loan spells at Reading and Watford as part of his development with the 2014/15 champions but has otherwise struggled to break into the team regularly under the likes of Jose Mourinho and Antonio Conte.
