Barcelona star turns down mega offer from Chinese Super League
Barcelona and Spain legend Andres Iniesta has turned down two lucrative offers to move to the Chinese Super League, AS are reporting.
The 32-year-old’s long-term future at the Camp Nou is in doubt, with his current contract expiring in 2018 and a new one not yet signed. The Blaugrana are keen to tie him down and have begun negotiations over a new two-year deal.
Their chances of keeping one of their most successful academy graduates have been boosted by the news of the rejection, with many big-name stars leaving Europe to play in the mega-rich Chinese Super League.
AS say one of the offers was worth a staggering €35million plus other perks, which included not having to play in away games, from an unnamed club.
But Iniesta’s agent and former Barça teammate Carles Puyol is believed to have been unconvinced by the club’s first contract offer and is keen to thrash out a better deal before the midfielder signs anything.
The club are also trying to sort a new deal for talisman Lionel Messi, but their captain Iniesta is not happy about his dwindling impact on games under the departing coach Luis Enrique this season.
