Barcelona could be set to spark a bidding war with eternal rivals Real Madrid for Tottenham star Harry Kane in the summer after reports emerged the Catalans have been scouting him and Christian Eriksen.

The Blaugrana are still recovering from losing Neymar in the summer and are drawing up plans to replace him having failed to do so fully in the aftermath of his staggering £200million transfer to Paris Saint-Germain. With Luis Suarez and Lionel Messi both turning 30 in the last year, the board are intent on reshuffling their attacking options, as well as in midfield.

It has been common knowledge that Barcelona are interested in signing Philippe Coutinho from Liverpool, but having been told in no uncertain terms that the Brazilian was not for sale, even at the offered price of £118million, they could now turn their attention elsewhere.

Talksport say next on their list is Eriksen, who has been linked in the past. The Dane has been a revelation at Spurs under Mauricio Pochettino over the last couple of years, as has Kane, who is widely regarded as Europe’s best striker on current form. The pair have a great understanding on the pitch and it could soon be getting recreated in La Liga soon enough.

In the case of Kane at least, Barcelona will have to fend off Real if they are to sign him. Previous reports suggest Zinedine Zidane has earmarked the England striker as his prime target and is willing to spend £150million to lure him to the Santiago Bernabeu. Whether Ernesto Valverde could persuade his bosses to match that bid remains to be seen, but it could be futile anyway because Spurs are not unlikely to want to sell their local hero for any money.

Pochettino has said before that he loves Kane, and having come through the club’s youth academy, he feels the same way about them. But Eriksen may be easier to acquire because he has made admiring glances in the Camp Nou’s direction before. Surely it would be a dream for the Dane to play alongside Andres Iniesta and, if he signs a new contract, Messi, but amazingly, as it stands, the Barcelona number 10 is free to talk to other clubs about a pre-contract as soon as January.
