Barcelona identify Premier League midfielder as surprise target
Southampton holding midfielder Oriol Romeu has emerged as a surprise target for LaLiga giants Barcelona.
Romeu has been heavily linked with a return to Barcelona, where he played his football before moving to Chelsea in 2011.
Barcelona reportedly regard the 25-year-old as a long-term replacement for Sergio Busquets. He certainly has the aggression.
Reports indicate that there has been no official approach made from Barcelona but, according to Marca, contact has been made with the player.
Romeu signed a new long-term contract earlier this year but interest from other clubs is warranted given his consistency throughout the season in a Southampton shirt.
It could be an interesting summer for Southampton if they lose key players such as Romeu and Van Dijk.
