Barcelona edge closer to completing phenomenal £138m signing as Nou Camp side pull out all the stops with massive summer capture
Barcelona are reportedly launching a staggering £138m final bid for Philippe Coutinho, according to Sky Sports.
The Catalan giants have been denied their previous three offers by Liverpool, but believe the fourth bid of £101m up front with add-ons of £37m will secure the 25-year-old playmaker. The Reds were not impressed by the last offer due to the lack of money up front, but their position may change as Barca reach for more cash.
The Brazilian submitted a transfer request earlier this month, and is looking to push a move to La Liga, despite signing a long-term contract with Liverpool in January. One source in Spain told Sky Sports News: “Philippe has never been more determined to leave Liverpool.
Coutinho has been a key player at Anfield, propelling the club to a top four finish last season, and returning the club to the Champions League. He scored 13 Premier League goals and had 7 assists during the 2016-17 campaign, proving to be a major asset for Jurgen Klopp.
The Liverpool boss said his position has not changed with his star player, despite the drama surrounding the transfer. Coutinho has yet to play this season, due to being ill, as the Reds are hopeful he will return to the pitch.
The Blaugrana see the Brazilian as the potential replacement for veteran Andres Iniesta in the midfield. The club are also in need of another star to join Lionel Messi and Luis Suarez in the attack. Barca appear relentless in securing Coutinho, as the end of the transfer window is just a week away.
