Barcelona chief believes star is happy at the club and will stay
Barcelona’s Director of International Football Ariedo Braida has moved to allay fears over Lionel Messi’s future by claiming the Argentine is ‘married’ to Barcelona, per Sky.
Messi has been at the club since 2000, coming through the academy. He has won five Ballon d’Ors since 2009 and is arguably the greatest player of all time.
But his current contract at the Camp Nou runs out in the summer of 2018 and there is no imminent sign of a renewal, sparking speculation that the 29-year-old could end his 17-year affiliation with the Catalans.
But Braida remains confident Messi will remain with the current LaLiga champions.
Speaking to Radio Anch’Io Sport, he said: “Messi’s married to Barcelona, it is the perfect club for him. They are made for each other. Messi likes it in Barcelona and Barca are happy with him, for that reason I don’t think he will move.”
