Big development: Mesut Ozil and Alexis Sanchez's contract updates at ArsenalPublished September 15, 2016
According to the Daily Mail, Arsenal are close to an agreement with Mesut Ozil over a new contract, but the news isn’t so good on the Alexis Sanchez front.
The Germany playmaker Ozil and Chile forward Sanchez both have two years left on their current deals with the Gunners.
Talks were opened in May about extensions to keep the pair at the Emirates for the next five years.
Negotiations were then put on hold because the duo were on international duty during the summer, but the Mail now understands that a deal to keep Mesut Ozil in North London long-term is close to being complete, but an agreement with Alexis Sanchez appears to be way off.
We at Free Bets, brought you the story earlier this week, that Sanchez was playing hardball over a new contract (see earlier story here) and our report seems to be backed up by the British press on Thursday.
It’s understood that the Chilean forward is demanding a huge pay rise and reasonable buy-out clause in any new contract he signs.
It’s believed that whilst Arsenal are optimistic that Sanchez will eventually sign a new contract with the club, it looks as though the player himself is in no rush to commit his long-term future at the Emirates.
AFC are confident Ozil will sign but there is not so much hope over Sanchez, who wants a big pay rise & also a buy-out clause. (Sami Mokbel)— Aido (@LeWookieGooner) September 15, 2016
