Arsenal target shock move for unwanted Manchester United man
Arsene Wenger could make a surprising move to sign Manchester United midfielder Michael Carrick, who is out of contract in the summer, per Metro.
The 35-year-old has been at Old Trafford for 11 years, having signed from the Gunners’ arch rivals Tottenham in 2006, but current boss Jose Mourinho has hinted his time at the club could be ending.
Arsenal’s desperate lack of both composure and leadership was exposed badly in Saturday’s 3-1 defeat at Chelsea and despite his past loyalties, Carrick could be an ideal signing.
But with fans now questioning Wenger’s position as boss and the futures of both Alexis Sanchez and Mesut Ozil in doubt, it is likely that the club will target more high-profile names in the summer.
Former England international Carrick has won five Premier League titles in his career and with the Gunners failing to win one since 2004, that level of experience could be very useful at the Emirates Stadium next season.
