Arsenal fans, the wait is almost over.
According to the Daily Mail Arsenal have opened negotiations with Atletico Madrid over centre-back Jose Gimenez, with the Gunners preparing a bid in the region of £40m to land the 21-year-old Uruguayan.
The North London side are in somewhat of a defensive crisis, only days into the start of the new Premier League season.
Per Mertesacker and Gabriel Paulista are said to be out for the long-term, whilst Laurent Koscielny is yet to return to full fitness following his Euro 2016 exploits in France.
It left Wenger with youngsters Calum Chambers and Rob Holding in defence as Arsenal slumped to a 4-3 opening-weekend home loss to Liverpool.
In the aftermath of the defeat Wenger confirmed he was in the market for a new defender, and whilst the club have been linked with Valencia defender Shkodran Mustafi, it seems like Arsenal have set their sights on another La Liga target.
