Arsenal to sign £55m pair within 24 hours: Third deal to follow La Liga duo to the Emirates StadiumPublished August 27, 2016
Arsenal are set to complete the signings of two quality La Liga talents within the next 24 hours according to the BBC.
Arsene Wenger has thus far signed Granit Xhaka, Rob Holding and Takuma Asano and has become the subject of a great deal of criticism by the North London club’s fan-base.
Arsenal are well known for treading carefully in the transfer market but an uninspiring start to the campaign, coupled with injury concerns, has led to Wenger digging deep.
The Emirates Stadium side are to pay around £35m for Valencia centre-back Shkodran Mustafi and £17m for Deportivo La Coruna forward Lucas Perez with both players set for medicals this weekend.
24-year-old German international Mustafi’s arrival has been hastened by the long-term injury suffered by fellow countryman Per Mertesacker and Wenger will hope the Euro 2016 star adapts swiftly to the pace of the English top tier.
Perez, who is as yet uncapped by Spain, netted 17 goals in La Liga last term, an impressive tally given his side finished just above the drop zone.
Some may question whether the signing of the 27-year-old forward improves on options currently available to Wenger though his addition would at least bolster ranks in terms of numbers.
There is also growing speculation that a third addition may follow before the transfer window slams shut whilst defender Calum Chambers is expected to leave the club on a loan move.
