Arsenal set to make breakthrough bid for Ligue 1 star
Arsenal are set to make a third bid for Monaco’s Thomas Lemar with Arsene Wenger convinced he wants to move to England, per the Daily Mirror.
Lemar, 21, played a starring role in the principality last season, helping his side win the Ligue 1 title and reach the Champions League semi finals.
He has amassed interest from other clubs, most notably Arsenal, who have already seen two bids rejected.
But after signing Lyon striker Alexandre Lacazette, the Gunners have made Lemar their primary target for the remainder of the transfer window.
Boss Wenger is willing to pay £45million for the player, but it remains to be seen whether he is viewed as a replacement for either contract rebels Mesut Özil or Alexis Sanchez.
Whatever happens, after signing a new two-year deal despite failing to qualify for the Champions League, Wenger is expected to deliver in the coming campaign.
