Arsenal told to break transfer record to land £50m South AmericanPublished July 31, 2016
Arsenal are keen to improve on their current striking options and Arsene Wenger is readying a move for a second target following failed attempts to land Lyon forward Alexandre Lacazette.
The Daily Star believe the Gunners could yet put in a second offer for the French international, having failed with an opening offer of £29m for the Ligue 1 ace, however Wenger may turn his attention to Inter Milan’s Mauro Icardi.
The Argentine has been made available for bids over £50m and Wenger is known to be a fan of the San Siro goal-machine.
Icardi bagged nine goals in 12 Serie A starts in his first season at Inter, following his move from Sampdoria, and followed up that by netting 22 times in his 2014/15 and 16 times last term and the lethal finisher could be open to a move to the Emirates Stadium, not least as the Nerazzurri are once again without Champions League action.
Arsene Wenger has been overly dependent on Olivier Giroud for the finishing touches in the opposition box and whilst on the whole the Frenchman has delivered it’s fair to say the Euro 2016 star can be profligate in front of goal.
The likes of Danny Welbeck and Theo Walcott haven’t provided all that much by way of support in recent seasons and this has merely put more pressure on Giroud to deliver the goods.
