Arsenal lead Liverpool in chase to sign Manchester United star in shock January transferPublished September 20, 2016
Arsenal and Liverpool are both readying moves for Manchester United defender Phil Jones according to The Sun.
The 24-year-old is currently sidelined with a knee injury and is not part of Jose Mourinho’s plans and the Old Trafford side are ready to accept offers of around £10m for the England international.
Jones is on a £110k a week salary and moves to offload the former Blackburn Rovers man would also help to reduce the club’s ever expanding wage bill.
Arsenal are reportedly leading Liverpool in the chase to sign Jones and Arsene Wenger may well feel the need to strengthen his back-line.
The Manchester United man started just six Premier League matches last term and the arrival of Eric Bailly will further reduce his involvement in first-team action.

Jones is an adaptable talent who can be used in a variety of roles though he is perhaps most consistent when used in a central defensive role.
Since moving to Manchester United in June 2011 the defender has racked up 140 appearances for the club.
