Arsenal line-up £40m offer for world-class forward: Arsene Wenger sets sights on prolific strikerPublished September 22, 2016
Arsenal are reportedly eyeing up a big for long-term target Karim Benzema according to the Daily Star.
The 28-year-old French international has proven a consistent goal-scoring weapon for the Spanish giants and is part of a hugely effective front three at the Bernabeu, alongside Cristiano Ronaldo and Gareth Bale, and as such it’s hard to imagine Zinedine Zidane would entertain offers for the forward.
Wenger brought in Lucas Perez from Deportivo La Coruna to boost his attacking options and in Olivier Giroud the North London side have a solid, if not spectacular, front-man leading the line.
Benzema would represent a real improvement on Giroud but the player seems very settled in the Spanish capital and it’s hard to imagine he’d leave any time soon, not least as the club sit top of La Liga and are progressing well under Zidane.
Arsene Wenger has been linked with an interest in Benzema for a number of years, dating back to his time at Lyon, and Gunners’ fans are known to be courting the addition of a world-class forward.
Benzema has scored 20+ goals in each of the past six seasons, racking up a total of 162 goals in 332 appearances for Real Madrid.
This source claims Arsenal are ready to offer £40m for Benzema, which seems to be some way below the player’s value in today’s inflated transfer market.
