Arsenal line-up £30m Manchester City swoop as Arsene Wenger seeks to strengthen 'problem' areaPublished August 10, 2016
Arsenal are readying a £30m bid for Manchester City forward Wilfried Bony according to the Daily Star.
Arsene Wenger has been linked with a host of strikers this summer with Gonzalo Higuain, Mauro Icardi and Alexandre Lacazette among those supposedly on the Arsenal radar and one wonders if the club’s supporters will be impressed with the latest in this long line of targets.
Whilst Bony was a proven hit during his Swansea City spell the Ivory Coast international has barely featured since his £25m move to the Etihad Stadium in January 2015.
The bulky target man racked up 26 goals in 54 Premier League appearances with the Swans but has registered just ten goals in 46 matches in all competition at Man City.
Pep Guardiola may feel he can do without Bony and banking £30m from the move would help offset the large sums the Spanish boss has spent on the likes of John Stones, Leroy Sane, Nolito, Gabriel Jesus and Ilkay Gundogan this summer.
Wenger has had to rely heavily on Olivier Giroud for an end product in recent season and whilst the French international hasn’t been a failure it’s fair to say that the fan favourite isn’t a prolific striking weapon.
Add to this fact that the North London side haven’t got much out of back-up options Theo Walcott and Danny Welbeck and it’s easy to see why Wenger is so keen to sign a goal-scorer before the transfer window slams shut.
