Arsenal to follow up Riyad Mahrez deal with move for £18m Ligue 1 starPublished July 27, 2016
Arsenal’s transfer business may be about to explode into life, as the North London club look to make a real statement between now and the close of the summer transfer window at the end of August.
Gunners fans have been left somewhat frustrated this summer by their failure to land big name targets during the transfer window, with Swiss midfielder Granit Xhaka the only signing to arrive at the club.
But recent reports in the press suggest that Arsene Wenger is closing in on not one but two potential new signings.
According to several sources in the British press over the weekend, Wenger had stepped up his interest in signing last season’s PFA Player of the Year Riyad Mahrez and was readying a bid in excess of £40m for the Algerian’s signature.
Whilst fans wait and see if Arsenal can somehow prize the 25-year-old away from Leicester, reports coming out of France on Tuesday suggest the Gunners are close to the signing of Toulouse forward Wissam Ben Yedder.
French broadcasters Canal+ claim that the £18m-rated French striker is mulling over a move to London, with a decision on his future set to be made imminently.
Since joining the Ligue 1 club, Yedder has hit 70 goals in his last four seasons in France.
Despite Toulouse’s struggles last season, as they just beat the drop, Ben Yedder found the net 23 times, and it seems that the French side are resigned to losing one of their most coveted assets.
Whilst Arsenal fans have learnt to be wary of any rumours linking players to the club, there is a sense that finally Arsene Wenger is ready to act this summer.
But as Arsenal fans know, their club always seems to do their transfer business the hard way.
