Arsenal ahead of Chelsea in race to sign £47million-rated Serie A star
According to the Daily Express, Arsenal are leading Chelsea in the race to sign Roma defender Kostas Manolas in the summer.
Manolas, 25, has established himself as one of the finest defenders in Italy and caught the eye of Blues boss Antonio Conte last summer.
With John Terry’s contract running out in the summer and Branislav Ivanovic signing for Zenit St Petersburg, Conte is keen to add to his options at the back.
But it appears Arsenal have stolen a march, with the report claiming, via WhoScored.com, that personal terms have been agreed for a move to the Emirates Stadium at the end of the season.
Arsene Wenger will be keen to reshuffle his own defence, with both Laurent Koscielny and Per Mertesacker over the age of 30 and perhaps reaching a career crossroads.
The signing of Manoloas would be a real statement from the Gunners, after they signed Skhodran Mustafi from Valencia this summer.
