Arsenal 3-0 Chelsea player ratings: Alex Iwobi shines, Gary Cahill does notPublished September 25, 2016
In the aftermath of Arsenal’s 3-0 thrashing of Chelsea at the Emirates on Saturday night, our Free Bets panel, have given their post-match player ratings, and it’s safe to say that Chelsea fans should look away now.
Petr Cech – 8
The former Blues stopper was extremely assured in the Arsenal goal, and produced a fine save from Chelsea striker Michy Batshuayi late on.
Nacho Monreal – 7
Steady performance at left-back, without being overly exposed by either Willian or Eden Hazard.
Shkodran Mustafi – 7.5
Arsenal’s new centre-back looks to have settled quickly in the Premier League after a fine performance against Chelsea frontman Diego Costa and co.
Laurent Koscielny – 8
Produced a fantastic saving tackle to deny Diego Costa during the first half and had the fiery Spaniard in his pocket for most of the match.
Hector Bellerin – 8
Registered an assist for Theo Walcott, and produced a brilliant recovery tackle on Pedro who had raced clear and looked set to score.
Santi Carzola – 7.5
The Spaniard pulled all the strings in midfield, against former Arsenal old boy Cesc Fabregas.
Francis Coquelin – 6.5
Settled into the game well, but was unlucky to be forced out early with what looks like a serious knee injury.
Alex Iwobi – 8.5
The Nigerian was way too quick for the Chelsea backline and gave Branislav Ivanovic a torrid time throughout the encounter.
Mesut Ozil – 8
The German maestro looks like he is getting back to the form shown last season, after his goal capped another fine performance.
Theo Walcott – 8
The England winner capped his mini resurgence of late, with yet another goal and energetic performance.
Alexis Sanchez – 9
The Chilean led the line extremely well, and was a constant menace to the Chelsea backline, getting on the scoresheet, and registering an assist.
Subs: Granit Xhaka – 7 Kieran Gibbs N/A. Olivier Giroud N/A
Thibaut Courtois – 4.5
The Belgian keeper looks a shadow of his former self as of late, and lacked focus throughout the 90 minutes in North London.
Cesar Azpilicueta – 5
Just couldn’t cope with Arsenal’s wide players who were able to supplement the attacks.
Gary Cahill – 4
The England international had arguably his worst ever performance in a Chelsea shirt, with a defensive lapse allowing Alexis Sanchez to give Arsenal the lead early on.
David Luiz – 4.5
Has he improved? The Brazilian defender looks like he is an even worse defender to the one who left Stamford Bridge a few years ago.
Branislav Ivanovic -4
It’s surely a matter of time until Ivanovic is dropped. Looked way out of his depth and didn’t have the legs to compete with the Arsenal front line.
N’Golo Kante – 4.5
The French midfielder is struggling to recapture his Leicester form, and got turned too easily by Mesut Ozil, in the build up to Arsenal’s third goal.
Nemanja Matic 4.5
Slow, ponderous and another at threat from the axe. A shadow of the force he was when Chelsea lifted the title two seasons ago.
Willian – 4
Normally the one man to keep things afloat but even he seemed off the pace.
Cesc Fabregas – 4
A surprise that he started. No surprise that he was the first player sacrificed.
Eden Hazard – 4
Another of those games where the Belgian went missing when the going got tough.
Diego Costa – 5
The Spanish forward is the only Chelsea player to come out of the game with any credit. Costa put in his shift but was let down by his teammates.
Subs: Marcus Alonso N/A Pedro N/A Michy Batshuayi N/A
