Abou Diaby reckons he could have won Ballon d'Or without injuriesPublished November 30, 2016
Abou Diaby has revealed what he thinks he could have accomplished in his career if he hadn’t been plagued with injuries.
The former Arsenal midfielder is now at Marseille and currently nursing the umpteenth injury of his professional life. Deemed a natural heir to Patrick Vieira when he became a Gooner, he was never able to achieve his potential.
He told France Football that he dreamed of challenging for the Ballon d’Or, that it was something people tipped him for: “I have no limits. Once upon a time, people would ask me about the Ballon D’Or. I told them I dreamt about it.
I have always had big ambitions, like to become one of the best in my position. I think that I had the potential to achieve that. I am not saying it pretentiously, but some people in life are ambitious, others aren’t.”
It’s unfortunate that Diaby has suffered so much throughout his career but he has a good way of looking at it. The injuries could have retired him in his early twenties yet he’s still playing at the age of 30.
