Horse Racing Betting: Native Prospect To win Southwell Meeting with Betfair
Andrew Balding has an excellent record with his runners at Southwell in recent seasons and his stable continues to be in pretty good form so far in 2017.
While most punters have their attention on betting on Cheltenham Festival, there is still plenty of good action under both codes over the next couple of weeks and Balding has a runner in the 2.40pm at Southwell on Tuesday that has a great chance of landing this 1 mile maiden race.
Oisin Murphy gets the ride here and the 23-year old Irishman has been in outstanding form of late too, so Native Prospect is in a good place already, but on form he also stands out in this seven runner contest.
He improved for the step up to a mile when runner up on his final two outings as a two-year-old, with an RPR (Racing Post Rating) of 78 when following home a horse that went on to finish fourth in the Racing Post Trophy. That is the best form on offer here by quite some way and if this horse takes to the surface, he should be sharp enough to win first time out.
Hughie Morrison’s filly called Finale is a bit of a danger. Being the only female in the race she gets a handy 5lb allowance from her rivals and bids to build on a decent 2nd place effort over this course and distance last time out. Both Morrison and jockey Franny Norton have a good record around here too so she has to be respected as the chief threat.
A respectful nod goes to James Given’s Elegantly Bound, a gelding with lots of experience and a decent chance, but the pick here is certainly Native Prospect.
It is a bit odd that Southwell is the place he returns, but the yard obviously feel the surface is suitable and he may just have a bit too much quality for these.
